Darla F. Gooden

Herrin- Darla F. Gooden, 70, of Herrin, passed away at 10:15 AM, Thursday, November 24, 2011 at River to River Assisted Living in Marion. Darla was born on August 26, 1941 in Franklin County to Samuel Lee and Ollie (Barton) Kent. She married William F. Hopkins in 1959 in Benton. He preceded her in death. She later married George W. Bill Gooden on April 25, 1969 in Benton. He preceded her in death on August 13, 2007. She was a homemaker and a member of Bryan Street Baptist Church in Herrin. She was a very caring and generous woman who enjoyed the outdoors and spent many nights camping and fishing with her family. She also liked to crochet and was quite noted for her baking skills too. However she enjoyed spending time with her family, dog and grandchildren more than anything else. Survivors include- Step Daughter- Delores Cherry and husband Gary of Sparta, TN Step Son- William A. Gooden and wife Sandy of Hurst Son- Dwayne Hopkins of Herrin Daughter- Susan Trexler and husband Mark of Herrin Son- Dusty Hopkins of Herrin Son- Scott Hopkins and wife Chris of Herrin Son- Steven Gooden of Herrin Son- James Gooden and fiance Sarah Johnson of Herrin Fourteen Grandchildren Eleven Great Grandchildren Brother- Larry L. Kent of Colorado Sister- Nola Faye Massey of Benton Several nieces and nephews She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, great great grandchildren, six brothers and two sisters. The funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM, Monday, November 28, 2011 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Pastor Duane Faulkenberry will officiate. Burial will follow at Herrin City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM until time of service, Monday, November 28, 2011 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Memorial donations are suggested to Bryan Street Baptist Church and will be accepted at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin/ 201 S. 13th St/ Herrin, IL 62948.
