David Allen Cobb, age 91, of Marion, Illinois, passed away Wednesday, August 30, 2023 at Helia Healthcare of Energy.
Allen was born January 29, 1932 in St. Louis, Missouri, a son of Theodore and Jewell (Morse) Cobb. Allen's family moved to Marion, IL when he was 6 years old. He grew up in Marion and graduated Marion High School in 1950. He married Frances L. Mosley on April 19, 1957 in Cypress, IL. Allen drove a truck for Mayflower Moving later drove for Henshaw Lumber and Grain. Allen then worked selling cars for Absher Automotive and then for Hays Chevrolet. Allen later worked in the Williamson County Assessor's Office and was elected as Williamson County Treasure in 1974. Allen and his wife purchased Union County Motor Co. in Anna, IL, operating it until their retirement. Allen then drove tour bus for Anchor Tours. Allen loved to travel with his wife in their motorhome. Allen served as National Director of the Lincoln Land Camping Club. He was also a member of First Baptist Church in Marion.
He is survived by his wife Frances L. Cobb of Marion, IL; two daughters, Gina L. Toomsen of Prospect, KY and Susan L. (Rev. Randle) Record of Phoenix, AZ; eight grandchildren, James Allen (Cheryl) Turner, Jennifer (Matt) Mayabb, Julie (JD) Dunning, Sadie (Tyler) Dunn, Jase (Julia) Record, Sosphia (Ben) Dellaperute, Justus Record, and Sandra Record; fourteen great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; sister, Jane Alsip Disney of Marion, IL; sister-in-law Mary Cobb of Marion, IL; and many brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws. He is preceded in death by daughter, Sandra Cobb; son-in-law Mike Toomsen; his parents, Theodore and Jewell Cobb; and brother, Eugene Cobb and brother-in-law Bill Alsip.
Visitation will be Wednesday, September 6th, 2023 from 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 6, 2023, 11:00 AM at Mitchell Hughes Funeral Home with Rev. Randle Record officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Marion.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the First Baptist Church or Hospice of Southern Illinois.
