Carbondale- DAVID DELL BARLETT, age 60, of Carbondale, passed away at 2:25pm on Monday, November 26, 2007 at his home.
David was born in Princeton, Indiana on January 30, 1947, the son of Harold J. and Donna Frances (Karr) Barlett. He married Rachael J. Ward on September 1, 1973, in Jackson County. Together, they have shared 34 years of marriage. She survives in Carbondale.
David was employed at Southern Illinois University in Building Services from 1983 until his health began failing in 2000. Previously, he was a Drilling and Blasting Administrator and Chief Surveyor at Amax, Inc. in Gillette, WY. He was an engineering technician for Clark, Dietz and Associates in Carbondale and Champaign-Urbana. He received an associates degree from SIU in Civil Engineering Technology in 1975.
As a sequel to Davids many years in the Boy Scouts, in which he was awarded the Order of the Arrow, he became an avid outdoorsman and a lover of nature. For many years, he enjoyed hiking, camping, spelunking, fishing, and canoeing. Especially memorable was a week long canoe trip in the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge with three special friends.

Niece- Melissa Noland of Hesperia, CA

A memorial service to celebrate Davids life will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, December 8, 2007 at the Unitarian Fellowship at the corner of Parrish and Sunset in Carbondale. Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin is assisting the family with arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois or donate the gift of life to the American Red Cross. Envelopes will be available at the memorial service or accepted at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home; 201 S. 13th Street; Herrin, IL.
