Zeigler- David Michael Hopkins, 62, of Zeigler, passed away at 3:00 PM, Sunday, December 30, 2007 at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale surrounded by his family. David was born on June 28, 1945 in St. Louis, MO to Charles & Martha (Spinner) Hopkins. He married Kay (Laramore) Oshia in Patosi, MO on January in 1983. Mr. Hopkins retired from Vogler Ford in Carbondale where he worked as the body shop manager. David enjoyed fishing and mining for gold in various places including Alabama and Georgia. He was a former member of the Zeigler Masonic Lodge and Zeigler Eastern Star. He was of protestant faith. Survivors include- Wife- Kay Hopkins of Zeigler Daughter & son in law- Carla & Todd Auton of Hurst Daughter & son in law- Jeanette & Chad Keel of Herrin Daughter & son in law- Michelle & Zack Murphy of Johnston City Five Grandchildren: Megan Johnson & Chad Johnson of Herrin Steven Davie of Hurst Elizabeth Shadowens of Royalton Ayden Murphy of Johnston City Brother- Robert Hopkins of Mt. Laurel, NJ Sister & brother in law- Gail & Lester McCollum of Huntsville, AL Sister- Pamela Barton of Edina, MO Several nieces & nephews Cat- George He was preceded in death by his parents and brother- Merele Hopkins. A memorial service will be held at 6:00 PM, Thursday, January 3, 2008 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Monsignor Ken Schaefer will officiate. A time of gathering will be from 4:00 PM until time of service at the funeral home. Memorial donations are suggested to the American Kidney Foundation and will be accepted at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home/ 201 S. 13th St/ Herrin, IL 62948.
