ENERGY- Dennis E. Lavender, age 58, of Energy, passed away at 1:15am on Wednesday January 4, 2006 at Herrin Hospital.
Dennis was born on January 20, 1947 in Herrin to Roy and Thelma (OBrien) Lavender. He attended school in Hurst-Bush. He married Betty Vancil on March 2, 1968 in Herrin and together they shared 37 years of marriage. She survives in Energy.
Mr. Lavender was a retired coal miner. He was a member and trustee of Harvest Time Worship Center in Herrin and a long time member of the Crab Orchard Boat and Yacht Club. Dennis was a US Army Veteran from 1966-1968, serving in Germany. He was a member of the United Mine Workers of America.

He was preceded in death by his parents- Thelma and Roy Lavender
Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm on Friday January 6, 2006 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral home in Herrin with Pastor Todd Hawk officiating. Burial will follow at Blairsville Cemetery with military rites performed by Herrins American Legion and VFW Posts. Visitation will be held from 11am until 1pm on Friday January 6, 2006 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin.
