Dixie M. Ross

Herrin- Dixie M. Ross, 93, of Herrin, passed away at 9:10 am, Friday, December 18, 2009 at Shawnee Christian Nursing Center in Herrin. Dixie was born on October 30, 1916 in Herrin to Roscoe & Eula (Mathinee) Long. She married Quinton Ross on May 5, 1936. He preceded her in death on May 19, 1997. Mrs. Ross was retired having formerly worked at Allen Industries and Smoller Brothers in Herrin. She was a member of Bryan Street Baptist Church in Herrin. Survivors include- Son- Jack Ross & wife Bobbie of Louisville, KY Son- Donald L. Ross & wife Martha of Herrin Son- Robert E. Ross & wife Jan of Zeigler Thirteen Grandchildren Twenty Seven Great Grandchildren Sixteen Great Great Grandchildren She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters and two brothers. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm, Monday, December 21, 2009 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Rev. Duane Faulkenberry will officiate. Burial will follow at Herrin City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12 Noon until time of service, Monday at the funeral home. Memorial donations are suggested to Bryan Street Baptist Church and will be accepted at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home/ 201 S. 13th St./ Herrin, IL 62948.
