Don Eugene Henderson

July 3, 1918 — April 10, 2014

Don E. Henderson, 95, of Marion passed away at 1 am at the CLC of the VA Medical Center. Don was born on July 3, 1918 in Marion.  He was the first born child of Landon and Roxie (Carter) Henderson. Don attended Marion High School and was a member of the Marion Third Baptist Church where he loved to sing in the choir and read his poetry.  He served his country 1941 – 1945 in Asiatic Pacific Theatre, Private First Class, Co. I 105th Infantry, Army of the U.S., World War II. After returning from the war, Don’s work consisted of construction work, and custodian for the Williamson County Fair grounds and Burger Chef. He is survived by one sister; Patsy Henderson Nabb of Arizona, Nieces and nephews; Natalie Nabb Chrastil of Colorado, Nathan Nabb of Oregon, Dixie Ragisdale Dudley of Florida, Dayna Ragisdale Dewey of Wisconsin and David Ragisdale of Missouri. Don was preceded in death by his parents, brother – Dorman Henderson and sister Doris Henderson Ragisdale. Funeral services will be Monday April 14, 2014 at 2 pm at Third Baptist Church of Marion with Rev. Scott Kallem officiating. Burial will follow in Maplewood Cemetery.  Visitation will be Monday from Noon until the time of service at the church.  Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements. For those who prefer memorials may be made to the Third Baptist Church Building Fund or Baptist Children’s Home.  Envelopes will be available at the church or by mail to Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home, 800 North Market Street, Marion, Illinois  62959.
