Donald D. Bennett

Marion Donald D. Bennett, 57, of North Myrtle Beach, SC, died Monday, September 13, 2004 at McLeod Medical Center in Florence S.C. after an extended illness. Donald was born in Decatur on September 10, 1947 to William and Margaret (Burpo) Bennett. Donald graduated from Zeigler-Royalton High School in 1966. He was a Vietnam veteran who served three tours of infantry service in the U.S. Army. He was very active in pursing the rights and recognition of Vietnam veterans and Disabled American veterans. He spoke before Congress as a representative of disabled veterans. Survivors include: Step-Mother Loudene Bennett of Marion, Sisters: Billie Griffin of Schaumburg, IL, Bobbie Nicholson of Seneca, SC, Margie Cook of St. Petersburg, FL, Jackie Cullum of Nashville, TN, Joy Hulett of Lubbock, TX, Brother: Michael Bennett of Greenville, SC, Step-Brothers: Roger Rich of Marion, Tom Rich of Alexandria, KY, Jeff Rich of Marion, Step-Sister: Barbara Jones of Marion, Preceded by: His parents William and Margaret Bennett, and Step-Sister Karen Khachikian. Funeral services will be Saturday, September 18, 2004 at 11:00 A.M. at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion with Dr. Bob Wagner officiating. Burial will follow in Denning Cemetery. VFW Post #1301 and American Legion Post #147 of Marion will perform military rites at the graveside. Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
