Donald Day Parten

Herrin- DONALD DAY PARTEN, JR, age 84, of Herrin, passed away at 5:55am on Saturday, June 18, 2011 at Shawnee Christian Nursing Center in Herrin. Donald was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on October 15, 1926, the son of Leta (Lycan) and Donald Parten, Sr. He married Ruth Paterik in Chicago on June 9, 1956. Together, they shared fifty-five years of marriage. Ruth survives in Herrin. Mr. Parten was a member of the Bryan Street Baptist Church in Herrin. He honorably served his country in the United States Army and Navy during World War II and the Korean War. Donald had retired from the railroad where he served as a railroad representative. Survivors include his wife- Ruth Parten; three sons- Phillip and Jacklyn Parten, Paul Parten, and John and Kathy Parten; two grandsons- James and Joseph Parten; one granddaughter- Stacey Livingston; and Great Grandson- Aiden Livingston. He was preceded in death by his parents. Private graveside services will be held at Blairsville Cemetery with military honors provided by Herrins American Legion and VFW Posts.
