Herrin- Donald Dean Duck Daugherty, 82, of Herrin, passed away at 5:05 PM, Saturday, November 6, 2010 at Parkway Manor in Marion.
Donald was born on November 20, 1927 in Johnston City to George & Maggie (Hurd) Daugherty. He married Lorene Love on July 22, 1950 in Carlinville, IL. She survives of Herrin.
Donald was a WWII Army Air Force veteran and was a Paratrooper with the 11th Airborne. He was retired after working thirty six years as an independent insurance adjuster and later as the custodian of Herrin First Christian Church.
Donald was a member and Elder of Herrin First Christian Church and attended Herrin Second Baptist. Early in his career he ran for county Commissioner and was a Boy Scout Leader with the Egyptian Counsel. He enjoyed SIU Saluki athletics.

Son- Tim Daugherty and wife Benna of Harrisburg
Daughter- Karen Palmier & husband Patrick of Carbondale
Grandchild- Kristie Rolape of Louisville, KY
Grandchild- Ryan Rolape of Carbondale
Grandchild- Lauren Walker and husband Jason of Nashville, TN
Grandchild- Lindsey Cox & husband David of Nashville, TN
Brother- Bob Daugherty and wife Mary Frances of Columbus, OH
Several nieces and nephews
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers- Harold, Lejune, John Mark and Earl Daugherty and sister- Mary Ellen.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, November 9, 2010 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Dr. Jerry Ford will officiate. Visitation will be from 12 Noon until time of service, Tuesday, at the funeral home. Inurnment will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, November 10, 2010 at Rose Hill Cemetery in Marion. Military rites will be performed at graveside by the Herrin American Legion and VFW Posts with assistance from the Illinois National Guard.
