Donald E. Broeking, 92, of Marion, passed away on Friday, July 08, 2016 at 10:45 am, at home surrounded by his family.  Mr. Broeking was born June 24, 1924 in Marion the son of L.E. and Aurelia (Fry) Broeking.  He married Luetta Dettmer on April 17, 1948 in Marion and together they shared 68 years of marriage.  Mr. Broeking grew up on a farm east of Marion. He was a retired coal miner.  He was a member of the  Zion United Church of Christ in Marion.  He had volunteered many years with the Marion Youth Baseball.  He was a member of the UMWA and the BPOE #800 Elks. He enjoyed spending time with his family, camping, fishing and hunting.  In addition to his loving wife, Luetta, he is survived by his; Four children;   Donna (Keith) Bain of Burke, Virginia   Darrell (Angie) Broeking of Marion   Linda (Fred) Fietsam of Marion   Ron (Karen) Broeking of Marion Five grandchildren;   Kara Bain (David Mack) of Astoria, New York   John ( Kodi) Fietsam of St. Charles, Missouri   Jeff (Felicia) Fietsam of Marion   Diana (Andrew) Dehler of Houston, Texas   James Fietsam of Marion Great Granddaughter - Emersyn Fietsam of Marion Sister – Helen Soldner of Marion Brother – Robert (Kay) Broeking of Marion Brother – Kenneth (Carol) Broeking of Oreana, Illinois Sister-in-law – Sharon Simmons of Marion Sister-in-law – Helen (JD) Linck of Marion  Preceded by his Parents, sister – Dorothy Whitehead and infant brother L.E. Broeking, Jr.  Funeral services will be Tuesday, July 12, 2016 at 11 am at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home with Rev. John Holst officiating.  Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery.  Visitation will be Monday evening from 5 – 8 pm at the funeral home.  For those who prefer memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois or the Zion United Church of Christ Memorial Fund.  Envelopes will be available and accepted at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home, 800 North Market Street, Marion, Illinois  62959.
