Donna Jeanne Cook

Marion—Donna Jeanne Cook, of Marion, went to be with her Lord and Savior at 11:52 AM on June 13, 2013 at Herrin Hospital. Donna was born and raised in rural Pocahontas, Illinois to Walter and Winifred Sussenbach. She married the love of her life, William “Bill” E. Cook, on August 31, 1957 in Greenville, Illinois. They shared 56 years of marriage. He survives in Marion. Donna was a life-long Christian and relied on Jesus for her salvation. She was humble, kind, and always serving others. Her true joy was her family and spending time with her grandchildren at ballgames, dance recitals, swim meets, band concerts, school activities and much more. She very much enjoyed traveling and seeing God’s creation. She was an avid gardener and loved her flowers and plants. She was a wonderful cook and homemaker. Donna was a longtime member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church, Methodist Women, and Seeker’s Sunday School Class. She taught Vacation Bible School for many years. She also worked at the soup kitchen and delivered Meals on Wheels. Donna was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals. Donna leaves behind a loving family that includes her devoted husband, Bill; Daughter, Lisa Stroud and husband Jim of Marion; Son, Steven Cook and wife Moya of Marion. The delights of Donna’s life were her six grandchildren, Rachel Stroud, Emily Stroud, Jeremy Cook, Nathan Cook, Matthew Cook, and Jordan Cook.  Her brother- Glenn Sussenbach of Pocahontas, Illinois, also survives. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Faye Robey, Lucille Hug, Sarah Sugg, Charlene Breuer; Brothers, Marion Sussenbach, Harry Sussenbach, and John Sussenbach. Funeral services will be Tuesday, June 18, 2013 at 1:00 P.M. at Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Marion with Pastor Tim Ozment officiating.  Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery.  Visitation will be Tuesday from 11:00 AM until the time of service at the church.   For those who prefer memorials may be made to Aldersgate United Methodist Church Building Fund.  Envelopes will be available and accepted at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home, 800 North Market Street, Marion, Illinois  62959.
