Dorothy E. Jones

Pittsburg- DOROTHY EMMA JEAN JONES, age 82, of Pittsburg, passed away at 5:05am on Tuesday, October 2, 2007 at Fountains Nursing Home in Marion. Dorothy was born in Marion on January 9, 1925, the daughter of Stella (Conley) and George Smith. She married Albert Leon Varner in 1938. He preceded her in death in 1944. She later married Lavern Jones in 1947. He preceded her in death in 1977. Mrs. Jones was of Pentecostal Faith. She was a homemaker. Survivors include- One Son- George L. and Jane Jones of Pittsburg, IL Five Daughters- Josephine (Joanne) Varner of Carterville, IL Eva Lou Shelby of Johnston City, IL Sandra Jean and Larry Long of Johnston City, IL Karen Sue and George Bush of Herrin, IL Judy Marie Holmes of Energy, IL 129 Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren, and Great Great Grandchildren One sister- Edna Howell of Marion, IL Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands- Albert and Lavern; one daughter- Shirley Hill and one son-Jackie Ray Jones; three sisters- Maggie Smith, Thelma Patterson, and Lela Cochran; and two brothers- Billy Joe Smith and Garland Lewis Smith. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, October 6, 2007 at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion, with Rev. Don Colson officiating. Burial will follow at Number Eight Cemetery in Pittsburg. Visitation will be held from 5-8pm on Friday, October 5, 2007 at the funeral home.
