Dorothy Jean Disney

Dorothy Jean Disney passed away peacefully at 2:28 am September 1, 2017 with her daughter at her side at Missouri Baptist Hospital. Dorothy was born on December 30, 1927, in Marion, Illinois, to William Ralph and Mary Estel (Smothers) Greeney. Dorothy graduated from Harrisburg Township High School in 1946. On March 16, 1946, she married Arthur Craig Disney, who preceded her in death on July 9, 2016.  They were blessed to celebrate 70 years of marriage on March 16, 2016. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, Arthur’s parents Charles V. and Rosa L. Disney. She is survived by daughter Sharon Disney of Marion. Dorothy was a Christian who was a member of Marion Aldersgate, United Methodist Church, where she enjoyed singing in the choir and attending the Overcomers Sunday School Class. She also loved to travel, especially to Gatlinburg, Tennessee, with her family and friends.  She was a caring lady who always put others ahead of herself. Services for Dorothy Greeney Disney will be held at 1 pm on Tuesday, September 5, 2017 in Aldersgate United Methodist Church, with Rev. James Slone and Rev. Lance Leeds officiating.  Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 11 am until the time of service at the church.  Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion is assisting the family with arrangements. Suggested memorials are: Marion Aldersgate United Methodist Church, Shriners Hospital for Children, or St. Jude’s Hospital for Children.  Envelopes will be available the day of service at the church or by mail to Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home, 800 North Market Street, Marion, Illinois  62959.
