Dorothy L. Thompson

Dorothy L. Thompson, 88, passed away on Thursday, October 15, 2015 at 7 pm at her son’s home in Buncombe. Dorothy was born November 1, 1926 in Salem the daughter of Halla and Lulu (Lonnon) Ray.  She married Berthal F. “Pete” Thompson on July 29, 1945 in Nashville, Illinois and together they shared over 66 years of marriage until his death on September 4, 2011. She was a member of Spillertown Baptist Church and for 30 years she worked at Wal-Mart, working several years in the Fabric Department. Survivors include her; Son – Jerry Thompson and wife Debra “Denise” of Buncombe Two grandsons; Jerid Heath Thompson of West Frankfort Jordan Lee Thompson of Mt. Vernon Five great grandchildren; Ashlyn & Alex Thompson Isabella & Gabriella Thompson Lauren Three sisters; Pat True of Freeburg,  Mary Davis of Mt. Vernon, and Evelyn Reynolds of Decatur Preceded by her Parents, husband, Pete Thompson, four brothers and two sisters. Funeral services will be Monday, October 19, 2015 at 1 pm at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home with Rev. Stephen Shea officiating.  Burial will follow in Herrin City Cemetery.  Visitation will be Monday from 12 pm until the time of service at the funeral home. For those who prefer memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois.  Envelopes will be available and accepted at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home, 800 North Market Street, Marion, Illinois  62959.
