Douglas Richmond Linton

December 14, 1950 — January 26, 2016

Herrin- Douglas Richmond Linton, age 65, of Herrin, passed away at 5:11am on Tuesday, January 26, 2016 at Herrin Hospital.  Doug was born in Herrin on December 14, 1950, the son of Dwayne and Margaret Ruth (Richmond) Linton. He married Phyllis E. Keeling in Paducah on July 10, 1985.  They shared thirty years of marriage. She survives in Herrin.  Doug’s three passions were music, aeronautics and his grandson Max. He began his music career at the young age of thirteen and was playing professionally within a year. Soon he was in recording sessions with the Egyptian Combo and was on several nationally released records as well as appearances on television and radio shows. Doug performed and traveled with several bands over the years including Prana and Gun Runner. His last group was The Band 64 which had only performed once this past October. Doug’s love of flying came from his father, Dwayne Linton, who was an avid flyer and was a decorated Royal Canadian Air Force spitfire pilot in WWII. In the past few years Doug’s life was full of fishing, model cars and computer games with his grandson, Max. His life was full but ended much too soon – he will be missed by his many friends and family.  Survivors include his wife- Phyllis Linton of Herrin Son- Kyle and Amanda Avery of Marion Grandson- Maxim Avery of Marion Two brothers- William Dwayne and Patricia Linton of Worden      Richard “Rick” and Barbara Linton of Benton Three sisters-in-law- Patricia and Randy Morris of Herrin      Joan Clark of Herrin      Betty Keeling of Herrin Two Aunts- Betty Richmond of West Frankfort      Margaret Jones of Herrin  He was preceded in death by his parents.  Celebration of life services will be held at a later date. Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin is assisting the family with final arrangements.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the family. Envelopes will be available and accepted at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home; 201 S. 13th Street; Herrin, IL 62948.
