Dow L. Smith

Marion- DOW L. SMITH, age 86, of Marion, passed away at 10:35am on Friday, March 25, 2011 at Parkway Estates in Marion, IL. Dow was born in New Burnside on April 24, 1924, the son of William Fred and Myrtle (Tanner) Smith. He was retired from the United States Navy, having proudly served during World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. He was a member of the American Legion and the VFW. Survivors include two daughters- Kellie and Michael Kays of Carmel, IN Jodie L. Smith of Jacksonville, FL Two grandchildren- Kristen Kays of Carmel, IN Alexander Kays of Carmel, IN Brother- Dan and Imogene Smith of Medford, Oregan Several nieces and nephews He was preceded in death by his parents, and four brothers- Luther, Walter, Frank and Herman. Funeral services will be held at 1pm on Monday, March 28, 2011 at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion with Rev. Ivan Ryan officiating. Burial will follow at Robinson Cemetery in Ozark with military rites performed at graveside by the Marion VFW and American Legion Posts and assistance from the Illinois National Guard.
