Herrin- Dr. Rahim Asgard, 72, of Herrin, formerly of Philadelphia, PA, passed away at 2:20 PM, Friday, September 21, 2012 at Landmark Hospital in Cape Girardeau, MO.
Dr. Asgard was born on May 27, 1940 in Ardebil, Iran to Ezzat and Fatima (Yazdani) Asgharzadeh. He was married to Dr. Shahin Tacoukjou, the mother of his two children, in June 1966 in Tehran, Iran. He later married Judy (Josal) Asgard in September 1993 in Fargo, ND. She survives of Fargo, ND.
Dr. Asgard was a urologist at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Marion and in private practice in Herrin. He retired in 2008. He received his medical degree from Tehran University and completed residencies in general surgery and urology at Albert Einstein University in Philadelphia, PA.
He was a member of numerous medical societies and loved and cared for his patients dearly.
Survivors include-
Son- Ramin Asgard, a US diplomat and attorney, from Washington, D.C.
Daughter- Annie (Asgard) OReilly, an early childhood education teacher, and husband John of Galway, Ireland
Four grandchildren:
Taylor M. and Victoria L. Asgard
Yasmin F. and Emmitt D. OReilly
Former wife- Judy Asgard of Fargo, ND
Former daughter in law- Arlene Asgard
Sister- Akram Asgharzadeh of Tehran
Brother in law- Richard Josal of Herrin
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, September 29, 2012 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. His son, Ramin Asgard, will deliver the eulogy. A time of visitation will be from 9:00 AM until time of service, Saturday, at the funeral home. Private inurnment services will be held at a later date.
