Dr. Robert ?Bob? Rankin passed away suddenly at his home on the Lake of Egypt, at 3:09 P.M. on Saturday, June 15, 2002. Funeral services will be held at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 19, 2002 at 2:00 P.M. with the Rev. Leroy Waggoner officiating. Burial will be at County Line Cemetery in Creal Springs, IL. Visitation will be held on Tuesday June 18, 2002 from 5:00 until 9:00 P.M. with Masonic Rites and Eastern Star Services to be held at 7:00 P.M
Bob was born on October 10th, 1926 in Wayland, Michigan to S. Dale and Esther Rankin. He married Josephine Redenbo on October 24, 1988, she survives him. He is survived by Two daughters; Vicki Rankin of Toronto, CA and Heidi Rankin of Charlottetown PEI, CA; Two Sons, Kett(Julia ) Rankin of Paxton, IL and Curtis Rankin of Perrine, Fl, two granddaughters, Kati Rankin of Paxton, IL and Madison Atkins of Brunswick, MA, four grandsons, Silas Atkins of Brunswick, MA, Noel Atkins of Charlottetown, PEI, CA, Simon Rodreguez of Vancouver, BC, Canada and Gabriel Rodreguez of El Centro, CA, A step-daughter, Rebecca Redenbo of Springfield, IL, Two step-sons, James (Patricia) Redenbo of Springfield, IL and Edward(Linda) Redenbo of Alexandria, VA. Four step-granddaughters, Heather and McKenna Redenbo of Springfield, IL, Vicki Gunlock of Springboro, OH and Kim Rossetti of Montclair, VA. One Step-grandson Lee Redenbo of Arlington, VA. And a sister, Charlene Neece of Janesville, WI.
Dr. Rankin graduated from Greenville High School in Greenville, IL. He served in the Army Medical Corp during WW II. He graduated from Washington University School of Dentistry in St. Louis, Missouri. He practiced dentistry in Gibson City, Illinois for 35 years, retiring in 1987. Following his retirement he moved to the Lake of Egypt in Southern Illinois.
He was very active in community and service organizations. He founded the Gibson City Beautification Foundation and received the Gibson City Citizen of the Year Award in 1978. He was a 35-year member of the Gibson City Chamber of Commerce and the Lions Club. He served as Alderman for 8 years on the Gibson City Council.
After moving to the Lake of Egypt in 1986 he was active in various organizations. He served as a math instructor for The Marion Learning Center, was a member of the Lake of Egypt Property Owners Association, and the Southern Five Regional Planning and Development Commission. He was President of the Egyptian Hills 4th Division Association and served as President of the Trustees of the Lake of Egypt Fire Protection District.
He was a member of the Gibson City Masonic Lodge #733 AF & AM, and the Ainiad Shrine Temple, and the Order of Eastern Star #30. He was a member of the Lake of Egypt Christian Church.
Memorial Contributions may be made tot the Shriners Children?s Hospital, Lake of Egypt Christian Church, or the Gibson City Beautification Foundation, envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
