Herrin- Dr. Thavornwan Nid Sawetawan, 76, of Herrin, passed away at 10:25 PM, Tuesday, September 20, 2011 at Herrin Hospital. She was born on August 28, 1935 in Bangkok, Thailand to Thomya Palayanon & ML Wanwimon Saneewong Na Ayutthaya. In 1959 she married Vinai Sawetawan in Bangkok, Thailand. He is a retired physician who worked as an OB/Gyn in Herrin for more than 25 years. He survives in Herrin. She graduated with honors from Siriraj School of Medicine in Bangkok. She did her post graduate work at Lyndhurst Lodge Hospital in Toronto and also worked at Prasat Neurological Hospital in Bangkok. Dr. Sawetawan also had formal training as a director at Psychiatry Hospital in Chiang Mai in North Thailand. Survivors include- Husband- Dr. Vinai Sawetawan of Herrin Daughter- Supada Marlow, actuarial test analyst at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Chicago, IL Daughter- Valada Mora of San Diego, CA Son- Chiravudh Sawetawan, MD of Rockford, IL Grandchildren- Sarah and Phillip Marlow of Ann Arbor, MI Grandchildren- Kenny and Emil Gualdoni, Jr of San Diego Grandchild- Sean Munoz of San Diego She was preceded in death by her parents and son- Titinan Sawetawan, a chief nurse anesthetist at Good Samaritan Medical Center in West Palm Beach, FL. She was a Buddhist and her wish was to be cremated. Following her cremation her memorial services and funeral will be held in Thailand. Memorial arrangements were made at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Memorial donations are suggested to the Titinan Sawetawan Memorial Scholarship Foundation and will be accepted at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home/ 201 S. 13th St/ Herrin, IL 62948.
