Freeman Spur- Drucilla Mae Helms, age 87, of Freeman Spur, passed away at 7:30pm on Tuesday, October 4, 2011 at Friendship Care Center in Herrin.
Drucilla was born in Herrin on April 1, 1924, the daughter of Edward Clyde and Mable Mae (Rodgers) Russell. She married Harley Auston Helms in Pickett, Arkansas on July 17, 1946. Together, they have shared 63 years of marriage. He survives in Freeman Spur.
Mrs. Helms retired from Kroger and IGA, where she worked for twenty-six years. She loved researching her familys geneology.
She leaves behind her beloved husband of sixty-three years- Harley Helms of Freeman Spur, brother- Donald Russell of Springfield, and two sisters- Reba Brown of DeVane, WI and Audrey F. (Tom) Hamilton of Naples, FL.
Drucilla was preceded in death by her parents- Edward and Mable Russell as well as many of her brothers and sisters.
Drucilla was very loved and will be missed by her many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1pm on Saturday, October 8, 2011 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin with Rev. Don Colson officiating. Entombment will follow at Herrin City Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5-7pm on Friday, October 7, 2011 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home.
