Duane "Rusty" Rust passed away at IU Health Hospice House in Bloomington, IN on August 6, 2018 at the age of 86.
He was born July 2, 1932 to Floyd and Marie (Loveland) Rust in Sparta, Illinois and remained a resident of Southern Illinois for 85 years.
In addition to his parents, Rusty was preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law, Marvin and Norma Rust.
Rusty worked in the trucking industry, held a real estate broker's license, and then retired from his passion of owning a gun shop. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the Air Force.
He enjoyed Big Band and Jazz music and was known for his finesse on the dance floor. He was a gun collector, hunter, and award winning trap shooter.
Survivors include children, Debra (Dennis) Scherschel of Highland Illinois, Delinda (Larry) Bowling of Bloomington Indiana, and Darrin (Cindy) Rust of Glen Carbon Illinois. Grandchildren, Paul (Kira) Scherschel, Ashley (Chris) Noeth, Zac (Christine) Catozzi, Nathan Rust, and Nicole Rust, Step-grandchildren, Tessa Bowling, Emily Eggers, Beth Bowling, Sam Bowling, and great-grandchildren Jonah and Josie Scherschel. Niece and nephew, Marsha Rust and Gary (Debbie) Rust of Chester, Illinois.
Rusty was proud of his family and a good friend to many. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Funeral services will be on Friday, August 10, 2018 at 12pm at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home, 800 N. Market Street, Marion, IL 62959. Burial will follow at Cana Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday from 10am until the time of service at the funeral home.
