Earl Childers

Herrin- GORDON EARL CHILDERS, age 87, of Herrin, passed away at 10:10pm on Tuesday, March 18, 2008 at Helia Healthcare in Energy. Earl was born in Marvel, Alabama on January 13, 1921, the son of O.C. and Mary Jane (Reach) Childers. For thirty years, he worked as the group leader of the paint department at Norge. He proudly served in the United States Army during World War II, during which time he was stationed in the South Pacific. Survivors include several nieces and nephews. Mr. Childers was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers- Aaron, Ed, Herman, and Arthur Childers; three sisters- Clara Watson, LaVada Powell, and Lillie May Holloway. Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, March 22, 2008 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin, with Rev. Don Colson officiating. Burial will follow at Herrin City Cemetery.
