***Flag Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home Eddie Gene Barber Obituary Creal Springs Eddie Gene Barber, 69, formerly of Harrisburg, died Sunday March 21, 2004 at 12:08 P.M. riding in the saddle of his horse while fox hunting. Eddie was born March 15, 1935 to Ed and Pearl (Rhodes) Barber in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. He married Evelyn Carlton on June 1, 1958, Jonesboro, Arkansas and she survives in Creal Springs. Eddie was retired from the Illinois Department of Corrections in Vienna where he served as a Leisure Time Specialist. He was a United States Army Veteran He was a member of the Shawnee Hounds, River to River Hounds and Masters of Fox Hound Association. Eddie enjoyed fox hunting, spending time with his family, sailing and bike riding. Survivors include: Two Sons and Daughter-in-laws: Kort and Brenda Barber of Marion Kade & Kenya Barber of St. Charles, MO Two Adopted Sons and Daughter-in-laws: Steven & Lisa Rath of Winchester, MO Darren & Michelle Moore of Marion Five Grandchildren: Austin Barber of St. Charles Slone Barber of St. Charles Logan Barber of St. Charles Kaden Barber of Marion Oliva Rath of Winchester, MO Preceded by: Parents and one sister, Norma Hensley. A memorial service will be held 6:00, Wednesday, March 24, 2004 at the First Christian Church in Marion with Pastor Bill Rucker A Celebration of His Life will held 3:00 P.M., Saturday April 24, 2004 at the Fox Hill Farm at his residence. Military rites will be performed by VFW Post #1301 of Marion. It was Eddies wish to be cremated and his remains be scattered on the family farm. Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to Department of Theater at Southern Illinois University, Communications Building, 1033 Mail Code 6608, Carbondale, IL. 62901-6608.
