Hurst- Edith B. Miss Edie Semon, 89, of Hurst, passed away at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, February 10, 2010 at Herrin Hospital. Edith was born on December 11, 1920 in East St. Louis, IL to John Henry & Gertie Inez (Henson) Nowlan. She married Berthel E. Semon on May 11, 1940 at the Old Courthouse in St. Louis. He preceded her in death on April 15, 1985. Edith was of protestant faith and a homemaker who raised eight children. In her spare time she enjoyed working puzzles, crocheting, knitting and sewing. She was a kind and compassionate person who will be missed by all who knew her. Survivors include- Son- Berthel E. Semon, Jr and wife Lynn of Tucson, AZ Son- John A. Semon and wife Irmie of Germany Daughter- Edith B. Wiley and husband Clarence of Carterville Son- Kenneth J. Semon of Evansville, IN Daughter- Laura A. Carter of West Frankfort Daughter- Vera M. Coleman and husband Dane of Bush Daughter- Fay Howell and husband Joe of Hurst Twenty Eight Grandchildren Many Great Grandchildren Several Great Great Grandchildren Several brothers and sisters Many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter- Betty Jean Semon and grandchildren- Jerry Roper, Nicole Coleman and Nathan Semon. The memorial service will be held at 11:00a.m, Monday, February 15, 2010 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Rev. Greg Parker will officiate. Inurnment will follow at Blairsville Cemetery in Blairsville. A time of gathering will be from 10:00 am until time of service, Monday at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin.
