Edith Louise Crain-Popham

HERRIN- Edith Louise Crain-Popham, age 93, of Herrin, formerly of Percy, IL, passed away at 5:55am on Friday February 24, 2006 at Shawnee Christian Nursing Center in Herrin. Edith was born on July 6, 1912 in Clifford, IL to Angelo and Lucy (Colombo) Ronsi. She married Joe Crain on January 8, 1929 in Louisville, IL. He preceded her in death on March 20, 1947. She later married Virgil Popham in Clarksdale, Mississippi on May 24, 1958. He preceded her in death on November 23, 1984. Mrs. Crain-Popham formerly worked at Moronis Drug Store, Cline-Vick Drug Store, and Allen Industries. Edith was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, the Rebecca Lodge of Percy, and the First Christian Church in Herrin. Survivors include- 3 grandchildren- Danny Crain- Herrin, IL Michael Crain- Percy, IL Cynthia Caby- Cutler, IL 1 step grandchild- Jeanne Diel- Edwardsville, IL 2 great grandchildren- Brittney Crain- Percy, IL Joseph Crain- Percy, IL 2 step great grandchildren- John Higgerson- Cahokia, IL Regina Higgerson- Belleville, IL 2 daughters-in-law- Mary Crain- Murphysboro, IL Donna Crain- Herrin, IL Several nieces and nephews She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 sons- Joe Crain and Howard Eugene Crain, three sisters- Stella Bazzetti, Rose Curbis, and Mary Ronsi, and one brother- Louis Ronsi Graveside funeral services will be held at 11:30 AM, Monday February 27, 2006 at Herrin City Cemetery with Rev. Glen Sanders officiating. Family and friends are asked to gather directly at the cemetery. Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin is handling the arrangements.
