Herrin- Edith Surgalski Coffel, 91, of Herrin, passed away at 3:50 AM, Thursday, January 6, 2005 at Herrin Hospital.
Edith was born on March 28, 1913 in Freeman Spur to Angelo & Virginia (Salina) Ferrari. She married Harry Surgalski on May 31, 1934. He preceded her in death in 1981. She married Ace Coffel in 1987 and he preceded her in death in 1994.
She and her first husband Harry owned and operated Surgalskis Grocery Store in Freeman Spur for fifty years. She was an active member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Herrin. She was a member and past president of the Daughters of Isabella and a charter member of the Herrin Hospital Auxiliary and a volunteer at the hospital for tenty seven years.

Many Stepchildren & Step grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins
She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, sister; Ann Hall, and one brother; Lee Ferrari.
The funeral mass will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, January 10, 2005 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Herrin. Monsignor Ken Schaefer will officiate. Burial will follow at San Carlo Cemetery in Herrin. Visitation will be from 5-8:00 PM, Sunday, January 9, 2005 at the funeral home. A prayer service will be recited Sunday evening at the funeral home.
