HERRIN-Edward Louis Quaglia, 60, died at 12:30 a. mm. Sunday, August 26, 2001 at Herrin Hospital.
Mr. Quaglia was born November 10, 1940 in Herrin to Louis and Pauline (Comerio) Quaglia.
He married Barbara Joanne Gossett on March 28, 1965. She survives.
Mr. Quaglia was Mayor of Herrin from l985 until his retirement due to illness in June 1999. He was elected for four terms as mayor. He served as Ward 2 Alderman from l977 to l984 when he was appointed mayor of Herrin. He served as secretary and vice-president and president of the Southern Illinois Mayor's Association. He served on the Board of Directors of the Illinois Municipal League and was a board member for the Federal Bureau of Prisons Community Regulations.
He was chairman of Southern Illinois Enforcement Group for l3 years, chairman of the Williamson County Crisis Center and an administrative aid to former U. S. Congressman Glenn Poshard. He was an investigator for Attorney Brocton Lockwood, member of the Home Builders Association of Southern Illinois and a former owner of Moochie's Grocery with his wife Joanne. He received the Distinguished Service Award from the Herrin Chamber of Commerce and was inducted into the Herrin Chamber Hall of Fame in l990. He was a 1958 graduate of Herrin High School. He was a member of OLMC Catholic Church and a 4th Degree member of the Herrin Knights of Columbus.
He was a member of the Carpenter's Union, the Sons of Italy and La Societe Des 40 Hommes Et 8 Chevauk.

His parents and one sister, Gloria Jean Quaglia preceded him in death.
The funeral mass will be held at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, August 29, 2001 at the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Herrin, with Msgr. Ken Schaefer and Father Henry Garavaglia officiating. Burial will follow at San Carlo Cemetery in Herrin with military rites by the Herrin VFW and American Legion Posts.
Visitation will be from 6:00 to 9:00 P.M on Tuesday at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. A prayer service will be recited at 6:00 P.M. on Tuesday at the funeral home followed by the Fourth Degree Honor Ceremony for the Knights of Columbus.
