Marion- EDWARD LEE McGEE, age 38, of Marion, passed away at 5:50am on Tuesday, February 24, 2009 at his residence in Marion. Edward was born in Marion on June 26, 1970, the son of Cherokee McGee and Mary (Hart) Simpson. He graduated from Johnston City High School, where he played football all four years. Eddie had worked for Ingram Barge Company in Paducah and more recently drove a taxi cab. Survivors include his mother- Mary Simpson of Marion, IL Father- Cherokee McGee and wife Lorie of Cairo, IL Grandmother- Ellen Hart of Marion, IL Grandmother- Loudene Ellison of Carbondale, IL Girlfriend and Companion- Evelyn Mitchell of Marion, IL Step-Daughter- Sahara Cheyenne McGee of Marion, IL Loved as Daughters- Collette and Cathryn Champion of Marion, IL Two Sisters- Marcia Smith of Marion, IL Alicia Kay Grissom of Marion, IL Three Half-Sisters- Brennan Brumbouth of Reno, NV Rebecca McGee of Cairo, IL Sara McGee of Cairo, IL Other family members- Linda and Don Holman of Marion, IL Donna Hart of Marion, IL Teresa Hart of Marion, IL Edward Hart of Herrin, IL Robert Hart of Herrin, IL Rhoda McGee of Marion, IL Ron and Evelyn McGee of Marion, IL James and Jamie McGee of Marion, IL Rick McGee of Herrin, IL Priscilla and Frank Mireles of Corpus Christi, Texas Naomi and Harley Garris of Reno, NV Nell Gray of Wonder Lake, IL Numerous Cousins Eddie was preceded in death by his two grandfathers- Corum McGee and Clifford Hart; aunts- Orpha Murphy and Sue Ellen Hart; Step-father- Chuck Simpson; and Nathan Champion, who he loved like a son. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Monday, March 2, 2009 at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion with Rev. Shorty Alsip officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5-8pm on Sunday, March 1, 2009 at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion.
