Herrin – Edward “Red” Kinley, age 86, of Herrin, passed away at 7:54am on Wednesday, December 14, 2016 at Shawnee Christian Nursing Center in Herrin with his family by his side.
Edward was born May 17, 1930 in Freeman Spur, Il the son of Edward and Eva (Spagnoli) Kinley.
Edward married Betty Joyce (Gossage) Kinley on November 1st 1951. She survives in Herrin.
He is survived by his wife Betty, Son and daughter in law Scott and Jane Kinley of Herrin, Sister Helen Crespi of West Frankfort and Brother Michael Kinley and Lola Bird also of Herrin. Grandson Nicholas Kinley and Morgan Ozment of Freeman Spur and Granddaughter Melissa Farley and husband Ryan Farley of Herrin. Great Granddaughters and the lights of his life Eliotte Kinley, Lauren Farley and Avery Farley.
Edward was preceded in death by his parents Ed Kinley and Eva Kinley of Freeman Spur and two sons Harry Kinley and Jimmy Kinley both of Herrin, and Brother Robert “Bob” Kinley of Energy. Edward also thought very highly of other family members including several nieces and nephews and sisters in law.
Edward was a former heavy operator was recently awarded as a 60 year member of I.U.O.E. Local 318. Edward also worked for Old Ben Coal Company for many years.
Visitation will be Thursday December 15th from 5 to 8pm at Johnson Hughes Funeral home in Herrin. Funeral services will be Friday at 2pm at Johnson Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin with Rev. Don Colson officiating. Burial will follow at Freeman Cemetery in Freeman Spur.
