Eilene Smiley

Eilene Smiley, age 84, of Herrin, Illinois,  passed away Wednesday, June 1, 2022 at Herrin Hospital.

Eilene was born July 06, 1937 in Equality, Illinois, a daughter of James and Georgia (Kitchen)  O'Neal.  She grew up in Equality, Illinois and had worked at Mattingly Nursing Home in Herrin from 1976 until her retirement.  Eilene married Dale Smiley in Harrisburg, IL in 1957.  Eilene loved spending time with her family, taking photos and enjoyed baking, cooking and making candy.  She cherished time gardening with her twin sister Pauline and attending church at First Church of God in Herrin.   

She is survived by six children, Amanda Diane McCoy of Las Vegas, NV, Gwen (Steven) Bolte of Herrin, IL, Jeff Smiley of Golconda, IL, Donna McCarthy of Marion, IL; stepchildren Jack Smiley of NC, and Kathy Smiley of Harrisburg, IL; one sister, Shirley Massey of Panama City, FL; and her 17 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; and 13 great great grandchildren .  She is preceded in death by three children, James Smiley, Marla Frasier, and Darrell Smiley; her parents, James and Georgia O'Neal; four siblings, Ed O'Neal, R.C. O'Neal, Leon O'Neal, and Pauline West; 2 grandchildren Chasity Grant and Karen Jo Smiley; Step brothers Buck O'Neal, Claude "Spud" O'Neal, Joe O'Neal, Bill O'Neal, Imogene Kitchen, and Edna Wilson.

Visitation will be Monday, June 6th, 2022 from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM at Mitchell-Hughes funeral home in Marion, Illinois.  Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 7, 2022, 10:00 AM at Mitchell Hughes Funeral Home with Rev. Dan Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant- Poordo Cemetery.
