Elaine Hillman

Energy- Elaine Hillman, age 95, of Energy, passed away at 3:21pm on Wednesday, March 25, 2020 at her home in Energy.

Elaine was born in Herrin on December 4, 1924, the daughter of Hershel and Margaret (Bird) Hopkins. She married Albert Lyle Commean in Herrin on February 26, 1949. He preceded her in death on February 7, 1978. She later married Paul Hillman on January 15, 1982. He also preceded her in death on June 24, 2000.

She was a member of the Herrin First Baptist Church, where prior to her retirement, Elaine had also worked as a custodian.  She was also an avid bowler and enjoyed life on the go, until her health limited her to do so.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law- Jerry and Karen Commean of Chatham and their children: Timothy Commean of Herrin, Mark and Emily Commean of Chatham, Marci and Bryan Coble of Irving Park, Melissa Buchanan of Springfield, David Surprenant of Springfield, and Nicole Dodge of West Bend, Wisconsin. She is also survived by Mark’s children- Avery and Brody Commeans, Marci’s children- Matthew, Caleb, and Gwendolyn Coble, David’s children- Michael and Dylan Surprenant, and Nicole’s children- Tyler, Kayla, Cody, and Bella Dodge.

She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, grandson- Jonathan Commean, great grandson- Gideon Coble, five brothers- Glen, Lebron, Leland, LaVerne, and Leonard Hopkins, two sisters- Hazel Craig and Hildred Culp, and special friend- Royal Yancey.

DUE TO HEALTH CONCERNS RELATED TO THE COVID-19 VIRUS AND BY THE SIGNING OF EXECUTIVE ORDER BY GOVERNOR J.B. PRITZKER, a private funeral service and visitation will be held at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin with Pastor Mark Goldman officiating.  Burial will follow at Egyptian Memorial Gardens in Energy.
