Elaine M. MacAnelly

Marion- Elaine M. MacAnelly, 81, of Marion, formerly of Herrin, passed away at 2:40 AM, Sunday, January 13, 2013 at Arch Care Center in Energy. Elaine was born on May 26, 1931 in Herrin to Joseph and Elena (Nigra) Bofetta. She attended St. Marys/ OLMC in Herrin and graduated Herrin High School in 1949. She worked at Norge for a few years before graduating from SIU-C with a degree in nursing. She worked several years as a nurse at Herrin Hospital before retiring from the Intensive Care Unit of the Veterans Administration Hospital in Marion. Elaine married the love of her life, Pete MacAnelly on December 28, 1985 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. He preceded her in death on October 21, 2005 after spending 20 loving years together. She was a member of St. Josephs Catholic Church in Marion and a member of the Daughters of Isabella. In her free time she enjoyed playing canasta with her friends in her card group, gardening, riding on her golf cart Froggy, travelling with friends and family and spending time with those she loved. She enjoyed having martinis on her deck at home- a time she referred to as happy hour. Survivors include- Daughter- Linda Miller and husband Jim of Herrin Son- Mark Smith and wife Shelley of Herrin Daughter- Patty Ann McKeever and husband Earl of Surprise, AZ Four Grandchildren: Randi Miller of Herrin Shandra Gosha and husband Mitchell of Herrin Britton Miller of Herrin Chris Harris of Las Vegas, NV Seven great grandchildren: Ryley, Reagan and Gunter Gosha Bronson and Breanna Nesler Aidan Miller Danielle Harris Brother- George Bofetta of Tempe, AZ Sister in law- Joanne McRoy and husband Jack of Marion Sister in law- Pat King and husband Ed of Herrin Sister in law- Betty Jones and husband Bob of Vienna Sister in law- Shirley Kay and husband Leon of Springfield Sister in law- Mary MacAnelly of Marion Tons of nieces and nephews and cousins Aunt- Margaret Campbell of Herrin Life Long friend- Mary Lynn Calcaterra of Herrin She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter- Nancy MacAnelly, son- Jimmy Strief, great granddaughter- Braelyn Janae Nesler, sister in law- Marilyn Bofetta and brother in law- John MacAnelly. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, January 17, 2013 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. The Reverend Monsignor Thomas D. Flach will officiate. Burial will follow at Freedom Cemetery south of Marion. Visitation will be from 5-9:00 PM, Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin.
