Elda Janice (Berra) O'Neal

Herrin- Elda Janice (Berra) O’Neal, age 92, of Herrin, passed away at 3:40pm on Sunday, July 14, 2013 at her home in Herrin. Elda was born in Herrin on September 22, 1920, the daughter of George and Jennie (Calcaterra) Berra.  She married Don O’Neal in Herrin on May 20, 1941.  He preceded her in death on November 30, 1994. Mrs. O’Neal was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Herrin. She retired as Assistant Personnel Director from the Federal Bureau of Prisons in Marion.  In her spare time, Elda enjoyed reading and playing golf.  She was a very giving person, having volunteered her time as a den mother in scouting and baking pies for others. Survivors include two sons- Michael and Linda O’Neal of Effingham, IL Tim and Ginny O’Neal of Glen Ellyn, IL Four Grandchildren- Shawn and Cami O’Neal of Phoenix, AZ Erin and Scott Maskel of Indianapolis, IN Brianne and Alex Bartolomucci of Nashville, IL Andrew and Jill O’Neal of Aurora, IL Seven Great Grandchildren- Carson and Cooper Maskel Connor O’Neal Lauren Bartolomucci Cole, Tyler, and Mason O’Neal She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband- Don. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00am on Saturday, July 20, 2013 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Herrin with Monsignor Ken Schaefer officiating.  Burial will follow at San Carlo Cemetery in Herrin. Visitation will be held from 5-8pm on Friday, July 19, 2013 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin.
