Herrin- ELEANOR J. SALMO, age 85, of Herrin, died at 6:54am on Saturday, February 19, 2011 at the Herrin Rehabilitation Center and Nursing Home.
Eleanor was born in Herrin on November 19, 1925, the daughter of Emil and Mary (Lattuada) Cattaneo. She married Fred A. Salmo on September 8, 1951 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Herrin. He Survives.
Mrs. Salmo was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church and was a member of the Daughters of Mary.
Before graduation from Herrin High School, Eleanor worked as a coat/hat check girl at White City Park in Herrin. After graduation, during World War II, she worked at a government office in Chicago. After her marriage to Fred, she continued to work for Smoler Brothers, Norge, and was a homemaker.
She is survived by her beloved husband of fifty-nine years- Fred Salmo of Herrin, IL

Marc Salmo and wife Tricia of Herrin, IL
One daughter- Patricia Lane and husband Bob of Troy, IL
Six grandchildren- Leah Becker and husband Dave of Wentzville, MO
Cpt Andrew Salmo and wife Jessica of Columbus, GA
Kristen Lane and Ryan Lane of Troy, IL
Cory Salmo and Adam Salmo of Herrin, IL
Two Great Grandchildren- Mary Becker and Janie Becker of Wentzville, MO
Two brothers- Frank Cattaneo and wife Mickey of OFallon, IL
Anthony Cattaneo and wife Marlene of Herrin, IL
Three Nephews- Franco Salmoiraghi of Hawaii
Steven Cattaneo of Texas
Todd Cattaneo and wife Karen and family of South Carolina
Two Nieces- Virginia Salmo-Hecker and husband John of Massachusetts
Mary Kay Cattaneo of Herrin, IL
Cousins- Bill and Celeste Wade, Harry and Ann Wade, Clemmie Snider and their families.
And all of her remaining family members and long time friends
She was preceded in death by her parents, her Uncle Louis Lattuada and his wife Josephine, her Aunt Josephine Wade and her husband Don, her in-laws- Pete and Tressie Salmo, family members- Katie and Lester Samuel, Jennie and Pete Marando, Angelo and Anne Salmo, and Joe Salmo.
A Funeral mass will be held at 11:30am on Tuesday, February 22, 2011 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Herrin with Monsignor Ken Schaefer officiating. Burial will follow at San Carlo Cemetery in Herrin. Visitation will be held from 6-8:30pm on Monday, February 21, 2011 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin and from 9:30-11:30am on Tuesday, February 22, 2011 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Herrin. A Prayer Service will be held at 5:30pm on Monday evening at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Education Foundation, the Herrin Rehabiliation Center and Nursing Home, or the San Carlo Cemetery Association.
