Herrin- Elinore Catherine Billie Balder, 92, of Herrin, passed away peacefully at 8:25 AM, Monday, September 3, 2007 at Herrin Hospital.
Elinore was born on December 30, 1914 in Chatsworth, IL to Michael & Mary Ann (Resch) Smith. She married Frank Dudley Balder on November 10, 1935 in Chatsworth. He preceded her in death on July 8, 1963.
Mrs. Balder worked the Wiring Harness Line at Norge Co. in Herrin from 1954 until her retirement in 1981. She was a member of the Quarter Century Club at Norge.
She was an active member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Herrin and a member of the Catholic Womens Club. Elinore was a longtime member of the Herrin Senior Citizens and an avid Chicago Cubs fan. She was an amazing cook who was known for her pies and secret recipes. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her family and will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers, four sisters and her son in law- Gilbert Smothers.
The funeral mass will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, September 6, 2007 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Herrin. Monsignor Ken Schaefer will officiate. Burial will follow at East Lawn Memorial Gardens in Herrin. Visitation will be from 6-9:00 PM, Wednesday, September 5, 2007 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. A prayer service will be recited at 6:00 PM, Wednesday at the funeral home.
