Ellen Porter

Ellen Porter, 89, died at her home on Wednesday, April 2, 2008 at 5:30 A.M.. She was born June 12th, 1918, in Vergennes, Illinois, one of ten children, to John and Louise (Haurey) Albers. She married Eugene (Gene) H. Porter on February 17th, 1940 in the Murphysboro First Lutheran Church and together they had recently just celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary. Ellen was an avid bridge player throughtout her adult life. She enjoyed bowling, quilting and gardening. She was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Marion. She is survived by her: Husband Eugene Porter of Marion Son Dr. Thomas E. Porter and daughter-in-law Beverly Bible of Herrin Son Dr. William H. Porter of Guangzhou, China Son Richard E. Porter and daughter-in-law Belinda Kokoro of Marion Daughter-in-law Geraldine Porter Granddaughter Laura Wooldridge and her daughters Kaci and Abby Granddaughter and her husband Dr. Melissa and Mark Morley and their sons Alec, Ty, Asher and Taggart Granddaughter and her husband Angela and Dave Janczak Granddaugher - Dianna Porter Grandson and his wife Scott and Pamela Porter and their daughter Hannah Grandson and his wife William and Alison Heyn Grandson Kit Porter Granddaughter Elizabeth Porter Sister Eileen Wayman Sister Lillian Winning Sister Joyce Pick Twin Sister Helen Elkins Preceded by Her parents, Daughter-in-law Maggie Porter, Brothers Earl, Chester, Oscar and Elmer Albers and Sister-Elda Porter A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, April 4, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church with Rev. Marlin Otte officiating. A time of gathering will be held from 9:00 A.M. until the time of service on Friday at the church. A luncheon will be held following the service. It was Ellens wish that her body be gifted to science. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
