Ellen Porter, 89, died at her home on Wednesday, April 2, 2008 at 5:30 A.M..
She was born June 12th, 1918, in Vergennes, Illinois, one of ten children, to John and Louise (Haurey) Albers. She married Eugene (Gene) H. Porter on February 17th, 1940 in the Murphysboro First Lutheran Church and together they had recently just celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary.
Ellen was an avid bridge player throughtout her adult life. She enjoyed bowling, quilting and gardening. She was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Marion.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, April 4, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church with Rev. Marlin Otte officiating. A time of gathering will be held from 9:00 A.M. until the time of service on Friday at the church. A luncheon will be held following the service. It was Ellens wish that her body be gifted to science.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. Envelopes will be available at the church or by mail to Mitchell Hughes Funeral Home, 800 North Market St., Marion, Illinois 62959.
