Herrin- Ellen Strange, 83, of Herrin, died at 8:30 AM, Thursday, January 2, 2003 at Herrin Hospital. Ellen was born on October 2, 1919 in the rural McClure area of Alexander County to Charles & Mary Ellen (Simpkins) Copeland, Sr. She married Murrel Leslie Strange on May 28, 1944 in Cape Girardeau, MO. He preceded her in death on September 22, 1988. Mrs. Strange was a homemaker and formerly worked for Curtis Wright Co. in St. Louis during WWII. She also worked at the Shoe Factory in Cape Girardeau, MO. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Herrin. Ellen enjoyed reading and working crossword puzzles in her spare time. SURVIVORS: Dtr & son in law- Linda & Jacob Priddy- Herrin Dtr & son in law- Jean & Frank Taylor- Johnston City Grandchildren: Kristen Emery- Herrin Laura Taylor- Johnston City John Taylor- Johnston City Emily Priddy & husband Ron Warrick- Belleville Grace Priddy- Murphysboro Oliver Priddy- Herrin Michelle & husband Nate Lincoln- Carbondale Four Great Grandchildren: Joshua Hewlett- Herrin Daniel Muck- Herrin James Muck- Herrin Kaitlin Muck- Herrin Brother- Henry Copeland- Cape Girardeau, MO Several nieces & nephews She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, great grandson; Justin Hewlett, seven brothers, and one sister. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, January 4, 2003 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Jacob Priddy will officiate. Burial will follow at East Lawn Memorial Gardens.
