Emma Belle Elliott

Herrin- Emma Belle Elliott, age 89, of Herrin, passed away at 7:39am on Saturday, August 17, 2019 at her daughter’s home in St. Peters, Missouri.

Emma was born in Bush, Illinois on March 10, 1930, the daughter of Oscar and Carrie (Inchcliff) Whitecotton. She married Fred Junior Elliott in Herrin on August 10, 1946. He preceded her in death on February 5, 1975. 

Prior to her retirement, Emma had worked at various restaurants, including Big Daddy’s in Herrin, and as a cook at the VA Hospital in Marion.  She loved her family and friends, and was crazy about her little dog “Squeak”.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law- Cathy and Doug Briscoe of St. Peters, MO

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four sisters- Mae Shelton, Dorothy Whitecotton, Virginia Sadler, and Ethel Jeffrey, three nieces- Phyllis Caraker, Barbara Smith, and Betty Clerk, and three nephews- Terry Barnett, Larry Elliott, and Jerry Whitecotton.

Funeral services will be held at 1pm on Tuesday, August 20, 2019 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Rev. Don Colson will officiate. Burial will follow at Blairsville Cemetery.  Visitation will be held from 11am-1pm on Tuesday, August 20, 2019 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin.
