Herrin-Emma Louise Slankard, 76 died 8:45 A.M., Thursday, August 02, 2001 at her residence. Graveside Services will 10:00 A.M., Saturday, August 4, 2001 at Herrin City Cemetery with Rev. Brad Harlow officiating. Burial will follow in Herrin City Cemetery. Visitation will be this evening, Friday, August 3, 2001 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Mrs. Slankard was born January 20, 1925 in Herrin to Hanson & Verlie (Adams) Barnett. She married James R. Slankard on September 5, 1942 at Jackson, Missouri. James died November 19, 1966. Mrs. Slankard was a member of the Second Baptist Church in Herrin. She also was a member of the Herrin Senior Citizens and was a past member of the Herrin Eagles Auxiliary. She was Past President of the Retail Clerks Union. She retired from Slankard's Upholstery. She is survived by: Two Sons: Jim Slankard & wife Madelyn of Waltonville, IL. Brad Slankard & wife Vera of Herrin. Three Grandchildren: Jennifer, Kimberly & Gregory Slankard. One Nephew: Daryl Beasley of Mayfield, KY. Her parents, husband, two brothers & one sister preceded her in death.
