Herrin- Emmett Eugene Absher, age 77, of Herrin, passed away on Saturday, June 2, 2018 at Continue Care of Paducah, Kentucky.
Emmett was born in Herrin on May 7, 1941, the son of Angelo Lewis and Virginia (Lyell) Absher. He was a proud United States Army Veteran. Emmett served as a military policeman in the 64th MP Company and was stationed in Toul, France from 1960-1962. Prior, to his retirement, he had worked at lumber yards in the area. Two grandchildren- Tessa and Mitchell Absher of Carterville
Three sisters- Marie and Sam Campanella of Herrin
Connie and John Bissey of Herrin
Paula and Bob Oldani of Henderson, KY
Two brothers- Frank and Tiny Absher of Fort Valley, GA
Mike and Dorothy Absher of Johnston City
Several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews
He was preceded in death by his father and mother- Angelo Lewis and Margaret June Absher, birth mother- Virginia (Lyell) Absher, sister- Jewell Hoffard, sister- Judy Workman, brother- Ronnie Absher, brother- Keith Absher, and niece- Amy Absher.
Funeral services will be held at 10am on Thursday, June 7, 2018 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin with Rev. Don Colson officiating. Military honors, provided by the Herrin VFW, American Legion and the Nation Guard, will follow services at the funeral home. A time of visitation will be held from 5-8pm on Wednesday, June 6, 2018 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home. Private inurnment will take place at Rose Hill Cemetery in Marion at a later date.
