Marion Ernest F. Hansen, 91, went to be with the Lord at 5:52 P.M. on Monday, February 4, 2008 in Parkway Manor in Marion.
Ernest was born December 14, 1916 in Wells, Minnesota, the son of Jens Frederik and Anna (Lindblom) Hansen. He married Ruth Mae Dougherty on August 31, 1939 and together they shared over 57 years of marriage until her death on December 8, 1996.
Ernest was a veteran of WWII serving in the U.S. Army 3708 Quarter Master Company in Heidelberg Germany. He was a spot welder at the Roper Corporation and retired as an assembler in 1981 from National Detroit in Rockford, Illinois. He was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Rockford.
As a family man he enjoyed fishing, boating, and spending time on the lakes in Wisconsin. He also enjoyed flying and all types of airplanes. In later years he spent time reading the Bible, reading westerns, and putting puzzles together. He was an active member of the Morningside Assisted Living Community in Paducah, Kentucky and participated in a wide variety of activities.
Ernest is survived by his three children, Donald Hansen and wife Caroline of Rockford, Judith Harland and husband John of Marion and Richard Hansen and wife Vida of Cherry Valley; eight grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and one sister, June Brantley of Richardson, Texas.
He was preceded by his parents, wife and two sisters, Cleo Schauman and Valborg Schroeder.
Funeral services will be held on 10:00 A.M.on Monday, February 11, 2008 at Delehanty Funeral Home in Loves Park, Illinois with Pastor James Rivett officiating. Burial will follow in Willwood Burial Park. Visitation will be Sunday from 3:00 5:00 P.M. at Delehantys.
Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion is assisting the family with local arrangements.
