Esther M. McKenzie

Marion- Esther M. McKenzie, 94, of Marion, passed away at 12:08 AM, Friday, January 5, 2018 at Westside Rehab and Care Center in West Frankfort. Esther was born on January 30, 1923 in Crab Orchard to Roy and Mamie (Stahlhut) Cox. She married Clair McKenzie and together they shared 47 wonderful years together. He preceded her in death in 1987. She retired from retail sales. She worked at many local clothing stores like Sohn’s and Zwick’s in Herrin and Albright’s in Marion. Esther was protestant and formerly attended Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Marion. She volunteered her time with the ladies auxiliary of Marion Memorial Hospital and later Heartland Regional Hospital. In her spare time she enjoyed sewing (she was a talented seamstress) and being outside working in the yard. Survivors include- Son in law- Dave McDonough of Marion 3 grandchildren: Leslie Ann Bove and husband Matthew of San Francisco, CA Brett Beiner and wife Roberta of Burr Ridge, IL Meggen Mack of Geneva, IL 3 great grandchildren: Jeremy and Jordon Mack Luca Bove Nephew- Donnie Stewart and wife Monica of West Frankfort Nephew- Jim Cox of Texas Sister in law- Helen Cox of Memphis, TN Great niece- Molly Brown and husband Matt Great nephew- Jake Cox and wife Tiffany She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Daughters- Mavis McDonough and Lynn McKenzie, brother- Jack Cox and sister- Janet Kline. A graveside memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at Rose Hill Cemetery in Marion. Rev. Carl Masiti will officiate. Inurnment will follow. Graveside memorial arrangements were made at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion.
