Marion Esther Minnie (Wilkening) Voss, 90, died on Wednesday, September 19, 2007 at 8:33 A.M. at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.
Esther was born in Evansville, Illinois on April 13, 1917 to Otto and Minnie (Koester) Wilkening. On June 5, 1938 she and Paul Henry Voss were united in marriage and were blessed with over 59 years of life together. Paul preceded her in death in 1997. Together they raised five children, daughter Eileen and Pauline preceded them in death.
Esther worked at the Brown Shoe Company in Evansville, Illinois for many years. She and Paul began farming Pleasant Heaven Farm in Pittsburg in 1957 and retired in 1992. Esther and Paul were charter members of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Marion. She was actively involved in the churchs growth and ministry during most of her active years. Esther was known for her kind generous heart, positive attitude, colorful hand sewn quits, festive 4th of July celebrations, and delicious homemade pies. Her life was dedicated to Our Savior, Jesus Christ, her family and friends. She will be dearly missed by all those who were fortunate to have known and loved her.

Thirteen Grandchildren
Twenty Two Great Grandchildren
Five Great-Great Grandchildren
Sister Ella LaPlante of St. Louis, MO
Brother Elmer Wilkening of Tulsa, OK
And a whole host of relatives still living in the Illinois areas of Evansville, Red Bud, Baldwin, Ruma and Horse Prairie
Preceded by - her Parents, Husband, Daughters, Eileen and Pauline, Grandson, Mikey and Sister, Almenda Rieder
Funeral services will be Monday, October 1, 2007 at 11:00 A.M. at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Marion with Rev. Marlin Otte officiating. Burial will follow in Maplewood Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday evening September 30th from 5:00 8:00 P.M. at the church.
