Marion- ETHEL BERNICE FALLON, age 82, of Marion, passed away at the Fountains Nursing Home at 8:23pm on Friday, August 4, 2006. Ethel was born in Murphysboro, IL on August 11, 1923 to James A. and Agnes (Ray) Whiting. She married Harold H. Fallon on October 6, 1940 in St. Charles, MO. Harold passed away August 23, 1994, after a lengthy illness. Ethel was a 1941 graduate of Marion High School. She maintained close contact with several class members and helped in planning their class reunions, most recently their 55th. Mrs. Fallon worked at F.W. Woolworth and Co. in Marion as a clerk. During the war, she worked in Dixon, IL at Green River Ordnance Plant as an inspector. She was a sales clerk at the Marion Dotty Shop, worked in the Williamson County Clerks office for many years, and for the Tuberculosis Sanatorium Board through the local health department. Ethel also worked in the accounting departments at Tuck Tape and SIU Credit Union until her retirement in 1992. Mrs. Fallon proudly served for many years as the Williamson County Democratic Chairwoman and was thrilled to have been able to participate in President John F. Kennedys campaign visit to Marion on October 3, 1960. One of the highlights of her life, though very sad, was traveling to Washington DC, to view President Kennedys eternal flame. Ethel loved her family deeply and unconditionally. She enjoyed spending time with her friends, offering a listening ear and a kind heart, and helping others. The world was a far better place in which to live because of Ethel and her sincere smile, love, kindness, and compassion. Survivors include- One daughter and Son-In-Law- Jackie and Cecil Horn of Marion, IL One Son - Wesley Fallon and Patricia Malone of Chicago, IL Three Grandsons-Brian (and wife Corina) Horn of Carterville, IL Kyle and Tanner Fallon of Chicago, IL Two Granddaughters- Alyssa and Noelle Fallon of Chicago, IL One Great Grandson- Tyler Horn of Carterville, IL Several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews Ethel was preceded in death by her husband- Harold, an infant son-Harold Ray, her parents, two sisters-Helen White and Mary Louise Fergus, four brothers- Roland, Walter, Jack, and Bill Whiting, and her step-brother- John Tonner. Funeral services for Ethel will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday, August 8, 2006 at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion, with Pastor Cindy Absher, of the New Hope Church of God, officiating. Burial will follow at Maplewood Cemetery in Marion. Visitation will be held from 9:00am until 11:00am on Tuesday, August 8, 2006 at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion. Ethels family would like to express their appreciation for the services provided through the Williamson County program on Aging; Shawnee Alliance; Shawnee Village; Lifeline; Fountains Nursing Home; Southern Illinois Center for Independent Living; Hospice of Southern Illinois; and doctors Michael Adams, Robert Golz, and Hal Pearlman.
