Ethel Marie Gill, 96, passed away on Sunday, February 20, 2011 at 4:20 P.M. with her family by her side, at her sisters home, Lois Clark in Marion.
She was born September 12, 1914 in Marion, the daughter of Walter & Lora (Swafford) Kelton. Ethel married Tommie Gill on July 26, 1934 in Marion and together they enjoyed over 33 years of marriage until his death on October 22, 1967.
Mrs. Gill worked for many years at Sangamo Electric Company and then later at Olin Corporation. She worked along side her husband as custodian at the Marion First United Methodist Church. She was a long time member of the Marion First United Methodist Church. She was active in the womens groups for many years. She enjoyed her ladies luncheons and the time spent with her small group. In her early years of retirement she traveled extensively throughout the United States and abroad. Until the last few months she worked and maintained her own home.
Ethel is survived by her sister Lois Kelton Clark of Marion. Nephews and nieces, James T. Clark and Kathy of Dix, Illinois, Ronald and Vickey Clark, Joyce and Michael Blades all of Marion. Helan Gardner of Poplar Bluff, Missouri and Louise Gardner of Lawton, Oklahoma. She is also survived by many great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brothers Fred Kelton and Bill Baldwin.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at 1 P.M. at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home with Rev. Ray Long officiating. Burial will be next to her husband in Rose Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 5 8 P.M. at the funeral home.
