EVA DAVIS DILLINGHAM Marion Eva Davis Dillingham, 104, died at 8:50 A.M. Thursday, September 25, 2003 at Parkway Manor in Marion. Eva was born September 16, 1899 in Williamson County. She was the third of seven children born to Josiah Davis, Jr. and Sarah Everett Davis. Eva married Hubert Dillingham on December 22, 1946, no children resulted from this marriage and Hubert passed away on August 31, 1968. Eva attended Southern Illinois Normal. She was grade school teacher in Williamson County for forty-two years with the majority of her time being spent at Chittyville. After her mothers death in 1929 she remained in the family home with her father for many years caring for his needs as well as teaching. Eva was quite active in Williamson County Homemakers Extension and was herself an excellent cook. She headed the Chittyville School Lunch Program for years and even coached basketball a year or two. She was well loved by her students and their parents. Years later in retirement on the occasion of her 100th birthday she was honored at a party by a large number of her former students. Eva attended Lake Creek Baptist Church in the community in which she was born and raised. Upon marrying Hubert they made their home in Herrin, years later in retirement and after Huberts death she moved to Marion. Her long life attests to the spirit of Southern Illinois. Survivors include: Sister Melba McCuan of Gas City, Indiana Step-son - William Dillingham and wife Mary of Prior Lake, MN Step-Grandson John Dillingham and wife Mitzi of Lakeville, MN Step-Granddaughter Ann Donath and husband J.D. of Lakeville, MN Step-Granddaughter Beth Kathan and husband Rich of Prior Lake, MN. Step-Great-Grandchildren Eight (8) Niece Jane Richeson of Indianapolis, IN Great-Niece Jeanette Miller and husband Doug of Haslett, MI, children Kelly and Allyson Great-Niece Jennifer Neligh and husband Mike of Greenfield, IN Nephew Robert Simmons and wife Jesse of Marion Great-Niece Lea Anne Collins and her daughter Daniella Arnold of Centerville, OH Preceded by: Parents, Sisters, Stella Tumilty, Alma Simmons, Zada Hudgens, Brothers Troy Davis and Alfred Davis Funeral services will be held at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion at 2:00 P.M. Monday with Rev. David Hancock officiating. Burial will follow in Lake Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 12:00 P.M. until time of service at the funeral home.
