Herrin- EVA MAE JONES, age 95, of Herrin, passed away at 12:10 pm on Thursday, January 17, 2008 at Herrin Hospital. Eva Mae, or Bill as so many of her friends and her dad used to call her, was born in Herrin on December 29, 1912 to Ferd and Mary (Williams) Sherrard. She married the love of her life, Glenn Jones, a retired coal miner and carpenter, on January 23, 1937 in Herrin. He preceded her in death on September 22, 1973, at the early age of sixty. Mrs. Jones devoted her life to helping others. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Herrin where she was President of the HERMEGI Sunday school class for many years. She was a member of the Business and Professional Womens Club and a charter member of the Herrin Lioness Club. Many people will also remember her from the Ben Franklin store in Herrin were she was bookkeeper, clerk and assistant manager. Survivors include- Two daughters- Glenda and BJ King of Herrin, IL Charlotte and Dan Clark of Chatham, IL Three Grandchildren- Julia (King) and Jim Hall of Duluth, GA Dalton and Nicole King of St. Louis, MO Darin and Emily Clark of Hinsdale, IL Five Great Grandchildren- Charlie and Evan Hall of Duluth, GA Harris King of St. Louis, MO Will and Elise Clark of Hinsdale, IL One niece- Ann McCracken of Pensacola, FL One Cousin- Mary Baccus of Herrin, IL She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband- Glenn, one sister- Reva Sherrard and one brother- Carl Sherrard. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, January 19, 2008 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin with Rev. Ed Hoke officiating. Burial will follow at Herrin City Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 11-1pm on Saturday at the funeral home. For those who prefer, memorial donations may be made to St. Judes Childrens Research Hospital. Envelopes will be available and accepted at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home; 201 S. 13th Street; Herrin, IL 62948.
