Herrin- Evan J. Robinson, 83, of Herrin, died at 3:40 P.M., Saturday, September 8, 2001, at Parkway Manor in Marion.
Evan was born on November 26, 1917 in Herrin to Evan & Cecil (Clutts) Robinson. He was a graduate of Carterville high School. He married Genevieve Bowyer on June 15, 1940 in Carterville. She preceded him in death April 1976. He married Wanda Baker April 9, 1977 in Herrin. She survives of Herrin.
Mr. Robinson was a member of Herrin First Baptist Church since 1940. He was a WWII Army Veteran. He was stationed with the Army Combat Engineers. Evan was a coal miner and worked for Belland Zoller Mine II and helped to sink Old Ben #26 mine at Sesser. After retiring from the mines in 1983 he worked as a greeter and in the garden section at Wal-Mart for several years. In his spare time, Evan enjoyed woodworking. He always had a project going for himself or others. His family especially enjoyed his holiday lawn ornaments.

He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, sister, brother, stepfather; Richard Painter, a stepbrother, and stepsister.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, September 12, 2001 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Rev. Maurice Swinford and Paul Tirey will officiate. Entombment will follow at East lawn Memorial Gardens in Energy. Visitation will be held from 6-9:00 P.M., Tuesday at the funeral home.
