Evelyn J. Drake

Herrin- EVELYN JANE DRAKE, age 86, of Herrin, passed away peacefully at 6:30am on Thursday, January 18, 2006 at her home with her loving husband at her side. Evelyn was born on March 23, 1920 in Herrin, the daughter of Harry and Mona (Wilson) Gosnell. She married Bill Drake on January 1, 1939 in Jackson, MO and together they shared 68 years of marriage. He survives in Herrin. Mrs. Drake retired from the Sears and Roebuck Company, where she spent forty years as a credit manager. She was Past President of the Business & Professional Womans Club and a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. Evelyn was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Herrin. Survivors include her loving husband- Bill Drake of Herrin; one daughter- Sharon and Robert Stephen Carr of Bloomington, IL; one grandson- Stephen Drake Carr of Bloomington, IL; and three great grandchildren- Avery Carr, Carolyn Elizabeth Carr, and Stephen Drake Carr, Jr., all from Bloomington, IL; her faithful dog-Blueprint and two cats- Fluffy and Boots. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; her brother- Leo Gosnell; two aunts- Fern Stiman and Cecil Long. Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, January 20, 2007 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin with Rev. Don Colson and Rev. Ed Hoake officiating. Entombment will follow at Herrin City Cemetery. Visitation will be held from noon to 2:00pm on Saturday, January 20, 2007 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin.
